Filming a Colourful Nigerian Funeral in London - Mill Hill Cemetery

As a Funeral Videographer, Filming a Funeral can be a beautiful opportunity to capture the essence of someone's life and legacy as family and friends gather to say goodbye. A few days ago I had the privilege of filming a Nigerian funeral at St Andrews Church in London, followed by the internment at Mill Hill Cemetery and the wake at Sacred Heart Church. This was a celebration of life, full of colors, tributes, and music, and I was honored to be part of it.

The funeral itself was held at St Andrews Church in London. The church was filled with family and friends all coming together to remember the lovely Chief (Mrs) Gladys Adaibe Uche and honour her amazing life and the impact she had on those around her. The funeral was a very colourful event, with traditional Nigerian elements such as vibrant clothing, dancing, and singing. The atmosphere was joyful, with laughter and tears mixed together as people remembered their loved one.

Filming a Funeral at Mill Hill Cemetery in London

After the funeral, we traveled to Mill Hill Cemetery in London for the internment which was an opportunity to say a final goodbye before she was laid to rest. The rain was very heavy when I was setting up my cameras by the graveside, but stopped just before the Hearse and five Limousines arrived. There were a few short prayers before she was lowered into the ground, then everyone watched from a short distance as the grave was filled. This was followed by the dressing of the grave with flowers. Close family then gathered around her graveside to say goodbye whilst everyone else went to the Wake

A Tribute Film I created for the Family was shown at the Wake

The Wake was full of energy, music, singing, dancing, reflections, food and half way through a tribute film was shown which I had created for the family several days before the funeral. This was a 6-minute film containing a mixture of songs and some incredible photos that the family had gathered from her life. It was a beautiful tribute that captured the essence of their life, and it will serve as a lasting memory for those who were there.
