A Little Bit about Me

 

My Journey Into Funeral Videography and Photography

My name is Shaun, and I am a documentary Funeral Photographer and Funeral Videographer who travels the country capturing funerals from various locations and faiths.

My journey into videography began when a friend asked me to film their wedding. I was immediately captivated by the experience and the creative freedom it offered. This newfound passion led me to leave my job as a youth worker and dedicate myself fully to honing my storytelling skills through videography. Before soon I was travelling across the UK and Europe, filming weddings and everything from medical operations for the NHS to health and safety videos for corporations like Cadbury’s, Severn Trent, Bombardier, and Arriva Trains. However, my true calling was always in capturing live events, transforming moments as they unfolded into cinematic films cherished for generations.

It All Started with a Vibrant West Indian Funeral...

Then about eight years ago, I was approached to film a West Indian funeral for a family in desperate need of a Funeral videographer. They had been turned down by several companies who simply didn’t want to take on the task. I said yes without hesitation, not knowing that this would change the direction of my career. Having attended my grandad’s funeral as a teen, I had a small idea of what to expect, but I had no clue how transformative this experience would be. During my wedding videography days, I regularly filmed weddings from various backgrounds and belief’s , so I was used to events with a religious or faith-based twist and always loved the unexpected. However, the depth of passion, appreciation, and celebration of a life well-lived at this West Indian funeral moved me in a way no event had before.

When I compiled the film for the family, using the storytelling techniques I had honed over years of wedding videography, they were overwhelmed. They shared the film and my details with others, and soon, I was filming and photographing funerals on a weekly basis. Within 12 months, I had captured nearly 100 funerals across the UK. Eight years later, I have documented over 2000 funerals, providing videography, photography, and live Live Funeral Streaming Services that have connected hundreds of thousands of families and friends worldwide. During the pandemic, my work provided a crucial connection for grieving families, allowing them to find closure despite the restrictions.

This Is Now My Passion and Focus

Funerals are deeply moving events filled with raw emotions, heartfelt tributes, and a shared sense of love and compassion. Each one is unique, some very sad due to being sudden, while others are celebrations of a long and happy life. Capturing these moments feels incredibly meaningful to me.

Although I occasionally cover weddings and commercial projects, my true passion lies in funeral photography and videography. Working alongside incredible families during these incredibly sad times and contributing to their journey makes every effort worthwhile. This is more than a job to me; it's a privilege to honour and preserve the legacies of those who have passed.
